The Bloody Egg Series

The works are created using the icon technique— a meticulous process involving eggs, vinegar, and pigment. Following years of fertility treatments, I was finally able to welcome my child into the world. Of the two ‘first-class eggs’ I was able to produce, one ended up becoming a life I was able to conceive and carry to term. There is an egg in the freezer from her batch, awaiting our decision. My husband says no, my mother says no, everyone who knows me says don’t do it. I’m ill. We’re old, we’re tired. We’re happy, just the three of us. Nothing else would have even been considered if not for that egg. And I, having kept my path so spotless and unremarkable that walking it might bore one to death— Or, at least, I tried my best to avoid ending up in this situation. The suffering of modern-day humans… It was fun playing God as I faced the need to create. A thousand years of fire and brimstone consume me. Flames leave no one in peace. Destruction.
